Which Lens Should You Choose for Refractive Lens Exchange?

Which lens does Dr. Tai choose for refractive lens exchange, and why?

For most refractive lens exchange patients, I choose a trifocal or an EDOF lens set for mini-monovision. This gives a broad range of clear vision, distance through near, while keeping night vision and contrast high. The right lens depends on your eyes, your prescription, and how you use your vision day to day, which is why I design the plan around each patient rather than defaulting to one lens for everyone. Over 95 percent of my patients choose an advanced lens with laser-assisted surgery.

Why does Dr. Tai usually choose a trifocal or EDOF lens over the light adjustable lens?

I do not usually offer the light adjustable lens. In my hands, a well-planned trifocal or EDOF lens delivers an excellent range of vision in a single step, without the added weeks of in-office light treatments the adjustable lens requires. My complication rate stays below zero point one percent, and most patients are seeing well and back to their lives quickly. If an eye is genuinely better served by another approach, I will say so, but for the large majority a trifocal or EDOF plan is the stronger choice.
